About beard transplant
Facial hair density is genetically determined and highly variable, and patchy growth is common in men of South Asian descent. Transplantation is the only reliable way to change it — minoxidil produces modest results at best in this area.
The technique differs from scalp work in one critical respect: angle. Beard hairs emerge at a very acute angle, almost flat to the skin, and in a consistent direction that varies by facial region. Grafts placed at scalp angles produce a beard that stands out from the face and looks unmistakably transplanted.
Almost all grafts used are single-hair units. Beard hair is coarser than scalp hair, and placing double or triple units produces a tufted, doll-like appearance. This makes the procedure slow — a full beard may need 2,000 to 3,000 single grafts — but there is no shortcut.
